Hmmm. Not sure why some of you are having trouble downloading the file.
When I click on the link it opens. Then go to the upper left corner under FILE and you can either download it or print it. It works for me. Sorry I don't know what to tell you. You can always email me and I will email it to you. Thanks. Sandy.
Welcome to day 14 of Moda's Pillow Talk blog hop.

Valentine's Day and My Turn Day.
We finally are having some very nice warm, thawing weather here in Iowa.
It's in the upper 40's here today. Yippee!

This shape was melted out of my driveway today.
Way to go Mother Nature!

To thank all of you for following this hop we are offering a 10% discount on all online orders placed from now through February 21. Type in the code pillow to receive your discount. Discount will not be received on sale items.

Since today is my day the subject of my picture is me.
I have titled today's picture...

It's All About Me.

Funky eyeglasses

A heart.

A paint brush.

Selvage dots.

As many of you know, I have been designing fabric for Moda for a very long time.
I am in my seventeenth year.
I paint out all of my fabric designs - because when I started there were not the computer design programs that are available now. (Yep...that old.)
As you know I collect paint boxes.

This is my littlest paint box.
It measures 3/8" X 5/8".
Isn't it cute?
Since I paint out my fabric and I collect paint boxes,

I decided to make a paint box pillow - a red one - for sure.

Each square of paint represents a piece of fabric from each year
I have designed fabric excluding this year.
(Because 17 squares did not work for a paint box)
Print or download pattern here.

Here's a close-up. Remember to click on pictures to enlarge.

So here is the deal.
Can you guess the name of each line of fabric
represented by each paint square in the paint box?
Leave your guesses in a comment. Just list them left to right.
If anyone guesses all of the fabrics correctly they will win their choice
of my pillow and today's painting or a fat quarter bundle
of my current line Lovely and today's painting.
If more than one person guesses all of the fabrics correctly
I will draw for the winner.

I thought this was a good idea until it dawned on me that some of you
where probably about eight years old when I started - soooo if you
haven’t a clue which line of fabric the squares represent,
leave a comment - any kind of a comment - "Sandy you are old as dirt." will work.
There will be another winner drawn from these comments.
Altogether I have 5 prizes to give away, the above prizes plus a Lovely Charm Pack™, Layer Cake™ and Jelly Roll™.
Comments close Wednesday, February 16 at midnight.

Are you a treasure saver?
As I was gathering up my fabrics I realized that I did not have scraps of many of my favorite pieces from each line.
If it was a favorite, it was cut up, pieced into a project and enjoyed.
I do not wrap my treasures in tissue, place them in a safe place and only take them out every so often to admire.

One of my treasures is this quilt made from my first line of fabric.
It was made by Pam Crockett.
Pam do you by chance follow my blog?

This quilt was displayed in the Moda booth at market.
Since it was made out of my first line of fabric,
Bruce thought I should have it.
I thought he paid too much for it.
He then had it hand quilted. More expense.
By now he had quite a bit of money in this gift of mine.
Some people would have taken this special gift, wrapped it in tissue and placed it in a drawer for very few to see.
Not me. If I treasure something - I use it and show it off - why pack it away in a drawer?
I hung my quilt on our dinning room wall.
Yes it is not nearly as bright as it was when I first hung it as the sun has faded it, but everyday I have enjoyed my gift.
I am about to do some redecorating in the dining room. It's time for a change. I will take the quilt down, fold it up….and lay it on the couch so it can be used for snuggling and keeping me warm.
Eventually the quilt will not only be faded, it will also be torn and tattered but still a treasure.
Better to be torn and tattered from much use and enjoyment than to be in pristine shape without a story.
Now for the questions.

What is a little known fact about yourself?
I can paint with my toes. In fact I painted out all of these mini pictures with my toes.

How do you relax?

Painting - (not a room) and chilln' at our lake cabin.

What do you sleep in - PJ's or Nightgown?
T-shirt and shorts or sweats.

What kind of pillow do you like, Hard or soft, foam or feather? And why?
Two pillows. Both HAVE to be feather. I like the top one to be soft and the bottom one to be medium.
Foam pillows give me a headache.

When you were young did you sleep with a stuffed animal? If so what?
No stuffed animals - no blanket.

Do you sew in bed? Read? Watch TV? eat?
Watch a little TV.

How many nights have you or your spouse spent on the couch?
If falling asleep while watching TV counts - a few.

Nighttime toddy?
No.

Early to bed or all-nighter?
I used to be an all-nighter, not so much any more, but yet I am not an early morning person either. I work at night but not nearly as late as I used to and I get up about an hour earlier than I used to.

Who would you most like to have a pillow fight with?
My sisters - that would mean we were young again.

Okay - if you believe the answer to the first question - I have some prime real estate for sale.
I feel like with a blog the whole wide world knows all about me...I have nothing left to tell!

Be sure to stop back tomorrow to see the painting of the day and link up with Lauren and Jessi Jung.

I am as old as dirt and have only been quilting for 10 months so do not know the names of any of your fabric lines - but I do drool over them a lot (happens when you are old as dirt) keep up the good work. I paint too, but not with my toes like you do (smile)

I am a red person and I love the red in your paintings!! And I don't think you paint with your toes. Unless you could paint your toes!!!

Would love a chance to win. I do like your fabrics, just can't name them all:)

susan said...

I am definitely old enough to remember all of your fabric lines but can't come up with the names of them. But I can tell you I love all of them. Thanks for the cute painting everyday.

And by the way, Camille Roskelley would love to have your painting of the red polka dot chair! I think anything red would be adorable for today!!!

I've been quilting for quite a while but never paid a lot of attention to who did what line of fabric--just bought what I liked and I've liked your brights a lot. I feel the same about perfumes and lingerie as you do about your quilt--what the heck are we saving them for--use and enjoy them as life is too short as it is.

What a great post!! I did believe No. 1 question and was going to tell you how wonderful that was! ;o) I love how you incorporated your fabric lines into your pillow...thanks for sharing.

I have only been quilting for a few years, but I adore your lines of fabrics. You have a special cheerfulness about you! Love your pillow. It fits you perfectly.

mascanlon said...

I've enjoyed all your paintings, they are inspiring! I have pieces of most of these lines but not so good on the names I'm afraid. Thanks for letitng us play along.

Jane said...

You know what would be great -- a fabric line using all your little paintings -- wish I was as creative as you -- those are all just so clever and interesting and the colors would be perfect!

Jennie said...

You are hardly as old as dirt, there's just a lot of us newbie quilters out there. And I wasn't seven when you started designing fabric. I was 17 and more interested in marching band practice than fabric. My apologies. My husband swears I'm making up for my neglect in the past.
Thanks for the giveaway - and I'm loving "Lovely" - just gorgeous!

Well, since you mentioned in your profile that you were out to prove your councilor wrong... ahem, in 1988... your not all that "old"...
sorry if I had to prove my councilor wrong... it would have had to be in 1975! No biggie! Your as old as you feel! And although I don't know the names of the fabrics I've loved fabric's all my life! Ever since my grandma and my mom sewed for me when I was a little girl. I would love to win one of your prizes... maybe even share it with a friend that is going thru a few trials... she really enjoys quilting and since she works as a private school teacher only gets to it once in a while. Thank you for the opportunity to enter! Have a great Valentine's Day!

Unfortunately, I have missed out on many fabric lines because I quilt sporadically due to other events in my life. Sometimes I get lucky through eBay and such. I love this collage idea from designers to show a sample of your history. The pillow is great and I would love the chance to win any of your fabric.

Sandy, I love all of your paintings for this 'hop', they are wonderful, and so perfect considering you used your toes, *wink*, LOL. Thanks so much for the pattern and for a chance to win some fabric treasures. I can't begin to name all of the collections on the pillow as I just started quilting 3 years ago (but didn't sew last year due to health issues, so really only 2 years of quilting), but I wish I knew them.
Love the fact that you don't hide treasures away to just admire once in a while. That has never made sense to me. I believe quilts want to be loved and snuggled and used, and of course, displayed for a bit too. Happy snuggling in your beautiful quilt. Hugs...

Tina said...

I don't know all your fabric lines. I wish I did though. I love your fabrics. I remember finding one of your lines on sale a few years go and wondering why no one else was buying it. I bought most of what they had. I love it. Your paintings are fun. I wish I had that talent.

Mommarock said...

Wow you really scared me there with that challenge.. this is my first year of quilting.. and of course I wasn't 8 years old back when you started.. I'm just a late bloomer. I do so love your choice for a pillow to represent yourself though. Very cute!

Mimi said...

Sandy, you are sooooo clever with this paintbox "thing"... problem is there are two fabs that I don't ever remember seeing..... then too, I need a cheat sheet to spell correctly.....where are my salvages? If only my treasures where so easy to find - like on the wall.... fun

Hi! My name is erica. Would you be my friend? said...

I spotted a few of the lines, but I can't get them all. :) I share your philosophy on favorite fabrics and quilts. They need to be used and loved. But I also can't resist keeping a little bit of my favorite fabric around! :D That's why I like some of those swatch-y quilts, that showcase favorites!

Janet said...

I know I've bought lots of your fabric over the years but to come up with names for all those lines!!
I am enjoying your little paintings very much.

I could only name a few of the lines ... because I am old as dirt and can't remember anything anymore! Thanks for the giveaway. I love your daily paintings. PS. I made "Its a Guy Thing" quilt for my hubby. He and my dog love it!

I was 15 when you started. They did not teach us about your fabrics in home-ec (they should have). I love that your fabrics all start with a brush and not a computer. I remember learning to draft by hand in college and now everything is done on the computer. I still prefer to use my hands. To each his own.

I've never been to your blog before. It looks like fun. It's nice to know that you paint your designs first. It's an entirely different way of doing it than most designers I follow.

I'm new to the world of fabric designers, although I've been sewing for years. I just hadn't got around to buying 'brand name' fabric.... until recently, and now I've got two of your designs in my stash. A Lollipop jelly roll and an Awesome charm pack.
I'm awake at an ungodly hour of the morning with nothing to do so decided to google your fabric ranges and see how many I could find. From the cushion above I could only identify Tranquility, Hearts Aflutter, Gobble Gobble and Frolic. Goes to show that the internet can't tell you everything ;)

AnnieO said...

Sandy, you are funny and talented! 17 years is a great mid-career number--I hope for many more opportunities to buy your fabrics and patterns! I loved Gobble Gobble, Frolic, and all of the Christmas lines, especially Crazy Eight with the adorable mitten and scarf decorated reinder. Thanks for the chance to win!

Wow! I love your paintbox pillow!

Hello! I don't know all of the fabric names, but do have a little story for you! My sister in law, Nicole and I are your biggest fans! One evening a few years back we were quilting together and were saying how fun it would be to quilt with you. So for HOURS we carried on as if you were in the room with us, boy did we have a great time with you!! (despite the fact my oldest daughter thought we had truely lost our minds!)

Thanks!

Finally your day has arrived! Yeah! I have been loving your paintings as the days rolled on so it's a treat to see how you identified yourself.
I have only been quilting for 13 years and those first years I worked mostly with cheap fabric until I learned my way, so no way can I Identify the swatches but I have had the pleasure of using your Zippity do Dah, Essence and Gobble Gobble for quilts that went to people very close to my heart. One went to my sister...Brenda. (I'm Sandy - BTW)

Sandy this is VERY hard! The snippets are small and the colors are tough. There are only a couple I'm positive of. Best guesses:
First Row: Tranquility - Nautical & Nice steering wheels?? Red White and Bold?? - Awesome? - Lamour? - Fresh-Squeezed - IDK (Adoring?) - Fall Back in Time???
Second Row: Gobble Gobble - Pumpkins Gone Wild - Zippity Do Dah - IDK - Alphabet from Lollipop? -- NO CLUE (log cabin?? from a panel??) - Frolic.

If you are old as dirt and I am older than you, I must be old as mud.

Happy Valentines Day!

Hi Sandy~I have been working on this all day, all day, since this morning and I am stumped!! I see there are a few lists that listed all your fabrics, but honestly I have been looking at those pdf's of those lines from moda and most of them are not used in your pillow. I found a few, but not what was needed to win, i wish the winner luck, i know i would sure love to win the fqb! here are my guesses, tranquility, fall back in time, hearts aflutter, oh baby, gobble gobble, happy hollow, pumpkins gone wild, and frolic. i sure wish i could find the rest, but my kids just got home from school, and i have to get off before the hubby comes home and finds out i have been doing this all day=one very unhappy man :O} I hope you have a happy valentines day, and good luck to the winner. oh and most of the day your link to your pattern was not opening, but it just did for me. thanks

I was in 4-H for 10 years too. My mom taught me how to sew & she was also my 4-H leader. I remember making a shirt & matching short set out of some wild animal print fabric. I won't even attempt to try & name all your fabric lines. I do know that I like Giddy though & I made a "B", as my children call it, last month. Thanks for making beautiful fabric.

I've googled your fabrics before because I liked them so much.

I haven't been quilting long enough to know about your older lines - I'm wondering if your style has evolved much over the years? Hmmm.....

Since I am probably as old as you are, I cannot possibly say you are as old as dirt! I can say that I did not know Moda existed until two years ago so have no guesses. How out of it can one girl be? I will say I did believe you on question number one because in HS I DID have a friend who actually COULD paint with her toes! I watched her do it. Imagine it! You make me want to paint little pictures. I may just start... but NOT with my toes. I will have enough trouble without adding to it! Last night I read your blog back about as far as I could go... I loved it. Thank you!

Ha! Good toe-painting ;)

You're definitely not as old as dirt but I only started my quilting adventures last year, so would have a tough time with the fabric lines! whatever lines they're from, I do love the pillow :)

Sandy, It would be nice to name all your lines. It has only been the last few years that I began to think about fabrics like I do my favorite authors. I used to think of them only as my fav colors, or by the feel. I am enjoying this designer promotion as it is opening a new appreciation for collecting fabrics as you would arts and books. Never thought of it like that before. mom@coxville.com

Your such a doll, I look forward to my morning latte, getting comfortable & seeing what tiny treasure you might have. As for names of fabrics?? wh??uh??I never
I barely know the name of my cars, the names of my fabrics? oh no.. I have been sewing since I was 11 , quilting soon after, do you have any idea the fabrics purchased?Yikes. It pains me to say this but `old as dirt'?? oh well, 54ish. They don't sell Moda at the local wallmart are no local fabric stores. We live thru blogs~its like Little house on the Prairie to
go shopping is `an event' an for fabric rarely happens-so it is reuse & make do & dream. Now I am just embarrassed. but you all know what I mean, right?

I also recalled that I used your Crazy 8 and Adoring on a small wall hanging I still need to bind.

12 - Bittersweet & Boo
13 - Holiday Happenings or All Things Christmas?
14 - Sweet Land of Liberty? (I *did* find this fabric online, but the only description was "Sandy Gervais Woods"... so I'm guessing Sweet Land of Liberty, because the fabric reminds me of that line. :-)
15 - Frolic
16 - The Caroler Mitten

It is very hard for me to submit an assignment unfinished (guess that's what made me an A student in school so many years ago ;-) but I'm stumped! LOL Maybe I'll be in the running if I at least got the ones that I *did* list correct? ;-) Thanks for the fun! :-)
